About Steel and Teal

We're Steel and Teal, a husband and wife game development team that specializes in RPG Maker games. Our background is one of writing, game design, and level design. Back in 2003, we started designing a series of fan games using RPG Maker 2003 for the anime community. They were very well received, much to our delight. Over the next 10 to 15 years, we continued to hone our craft working on non-RPG Maker products (Game Maker, Unreal, Unity) as well as developed our craft as professional writers. It's been an amazing journey, but we're ready to return to our roots and develop commercial games in our favorite engine, RPG Maker. There is something about the way the games look, the feel of a J-RPG, that we really jive with. We also love the supportive and friendly community. Our goal is two-fold: One, we want to create high quality games for people to enjoy. Two, we want to give back to the community in the form of critical reviews of video game projects and tutorials on game design. We hope to continue this goal on Facebook, YouTube, and through our website. If you're interested in having your project reviewed by us, or just want to talk game design, please contact us. We'd love to hear from you!

RPG Maker Let’s Play – For The Treasure – Game Critique

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we sway into the world of “For The Treasure”, a great demo of what is shaping up to be a great game.

This game has an “it” factor about it, a cohesive convalescence of categorical components that coalesce comprehensively into a complete creation. It’s not a tangible thing, […]

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we examine the world of Astoria: The Holders of Power Saga and look deep into what does and doesn’t work with this game.

We talk a lot in our critiques about balancing hero and enemy stats, and how many games fall short of it. Astoria does not, with […]

RPG Maker Let’s Play – Casia – Game Critique

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we run across the open world that is Casia, an old RPG Maker XP game with some solid good points, and some areas that need lots of work.

Quite note: The sound and music wasn’t working correctly for our playthrough of this game. This is likely due to […]

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play video, we enter the high fantasy world of Ahraynia, a game with a good start.

There is a lot of positive things to say about this game: The premise is good, the characters are solid, and the mapping (for the most part) is pretty good. We love the […]

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we delve into the world of Dungeon Dreams, a great JRPG up on Kickstarter.

Honestly, this game is amazing, with a lot of thought having been put into the game’s flow, with many multiple branches of dialogue and logic. The characters are interesting, the mapping is solid (even […]

RPG Maker Let’s Play – Final World Fury Open World – Game Critique

Hey everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we venture into the open world of Final World Fury Open World, one of the first (if not the first) open world RPG Maker games we’ve ever critiqued.

It doesn’t go as well as we’d have liked…

The opening part of the game, the hook that is supposed to […]

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we enter the world of Final Chaos: Saving Chevallia, a game with a solid production value and potential that could be great if a few keys things were worked upon.

RPG Maker Let’s Play – Crelixis Chronicles (Revisit) – Game Critique

Hello everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play, we return to the world of Crelixis Chronicles. The developer promised improvements with this version of the game, but unfortunately, it seems like the same problems plague the game as before.

The maps are still very rote, with buildings packed tightly together, trees too orderly and straight, and […]

RPG Maker Let’s Play – Expiation Demo – Game Critique

Hey everyone! In this RPG Maker Let’s Play we fall into the world of Expiation, an adventure with a few unique twists, but ultimately needs a lot of polish and work before it’s ready.

First off, it’s painfully apparent that this game is written by someone who’s first language isn’t English, and while that gives it […]
